Purpose:

To approve the delivery of a food waste collection service to businesses within the Borough.

Decision:

RESOLVED:

 

1.     That Option 1, to support the delivery of a commercial food waste collection from 1 April 2025 to protect the viability of the commercial waste service, to support the local economy, safeguard the current client base and income and enable continued service growth, be approved; and

 

2.     That the 2025/26 budget is amended to support additional resources required to deliver the service in the first year, to be approved.

Reasons for the decision:

To provide a service which supports the local economy enabling businesses to meet their requirements for Simpler Recycling introduced in the Environment Act 2021.

 

To protect the Council’s commercial services and budget.

 

To provide opportunity for growth for commercial services.

Alternative options considered:

Option 2 - Delay implementation of a commercial food waste collection service until the household collection service is established in April 2026. This risks to the option relate to the budget and commercial viability.

 

Option 3 - Elect not to provide commercial food waste collections. The risk to the option relates to the budget and commercial viability.
