TO CONFER THE HONORARY FREEDOM OF THE BOROUGH TO PROFESSOR SIR JONATHAN VAN-TAM. Minutes: Further to minute 26 of the meeting of the Council held on 27 September 2021, the following motion was moved by Councillor Paul Skinner and seconded by Councillor Stephen Woodliffe:-
(a) That in pursuance of Section 249 of the Local Government Act, 1972, Professor Sir Jonathan Stafford Nguyen-Van-Tam MBE, FMedSci. be and is hereby admitted to be an Honorary Freeman of the Borough in recognition of the eminent services he has rendered to the people of the United Kingdom during his career in health protection and particularly in his role as Deputy Chief Medical Officer, taking a leading role in the response to the coronavirus pandemic and being an excellent ambassador for his home town of Boston.
(b) That the foregoing resolution, engrossed on vellum and sealed with the common seal of the Council be presented to Professor Sir Jonathan Stafford Nguyen-Van-Tam MBE, FMedSci. in an engraved sterling silver casket”.
On the motion being put to the meeting, the Mayor declared the same to be carried whereupon it was
RESOLVED that the motion be adopted.
The Mayor thereupon declared Professor Sir Jonathan Van-Tam to be duly admitted an Honorary Freeman of the Borough and presented to him an Honorary Freeman badge, a vellum scroll bearing the foregoing resolution and a silver casket. Professor Sir Van-Tam then signed the Roll of Honorary Freemen, witnessed by the Mayor and the Chief Executive.
Professor Sir Van-Tam then addressed the meeting and thanked the Council for the honour that had been conferred on him.
